Who We Are

Hello and thank you for visiting my website, here is a little bit about us.
My name is Melanie, and I am the owner and Creator behind butterbean bizarre. I am a mother to two little ones Harry & Jessica and I have a wonderful partner Darren. We live in a small little town called Lowestoft which is the most easterly town in Britain.
I first opened my online shop back in March 2016, whilst I was on maternity leave with my son. I have always had a passion for crafting, and it has helped me through difficult stages in my life. But I had always wanted to turn my hobby into a small business, and with being a new mum I wanted something that I could fit around caring for my children. The name Butterbean was used, as when my son was born he was so pale and chubby he looked like the vegetable Butterbean and so this was his nickname. The word bizarre is used for all the unique & wonderful creations I make. creating unique items for his nursery. Since we opened in 2016 Butterbean bizarre has continued to grow each year, and I’m so thankful for each and every purchase we receive.
All of my items are lovingly handmade, and I take great pleasure in creating unique and personal items. I just let my creativity run wild in each and every item I create. I also like to inspire children, by personalising some of our items with inspirational quotes to help create a positive message. As well as empowering adults with our positivity gifts.

Here at Butterbean bizarre we like to do our bit to help charities. Every year we raise money for local causes & charities, as well as further afield.

In 2019 I created our Autism inclusion items & campaign (please see autism listings in our shop).

My son is autistic and faces daily struggles & battles, but the biggest challenge he faces is society's views of Autism.

So I created a design that focuses on diversity & the power of inclusion.

Since the launch of our inclusion campaign in 2019, I have gone onto win awards for my help in the community and my positive approach to raising awareness around autism.

Alongside this I also has an award winning blog, where I shares free visual aids I have created as well as blog about our family life. The blog is called Climbing the rainbow & can be found on Facebook & Instagram or by clicking the link below to be taken to the website.
